Social Media Course Batch 2 – Session 2

Day 2 & it started bang on time! Participants were all geared up for the session & were excited to see a new Speaker for our course (the speaker’s profile was at their desk as soon as they arrived!) And as our course involves assignments (yes u don’t get the certificate without submitting them to us! seems a bit like school but will prove you helpful), all the participants were busy interacting with each other about their respective assignments & discussed their social media research over tea/coffee.

Today’s session was taken by Ekalavya bhattacharya who has worked with WATConsult & Rajiv earlier. He is currently handling the Social gaming at Zapak.com.

The first session began with our primary topic Blogging & its essential uses in social media. Ekalavya focussed on the do’s & don’ts for personal blogs & engaged our participants by making the session highly interactive. He touch based on various aspects like gaming on social media & discussed work done by Zynga, Zapak etc, social bookmarking, content on blogs, cross promoting your content on other blogs, frequency to blogging etc.

He emphasized on HR personnel in companies to blog as that attracts new talent & CEOs blog posts which work as a visionary platform for people who want to know more about the company. Being the social media geek he is, he recommended a list of readable blogs & answered queries shot by our participants.

Social Media Course – Batch 2 – Session 1

So I finally started to get my thoughts together about how I feel about teaching social media. While its been over a month and 1 batch has already passed the first ever certified social media course in India, I now feel the value it has brought to me as well.

Firstly a few differences in the first vs the second batch

The first batch had an average age of 25-30 while the second batch seems to have one of 35

The first batch actually included online professionals that knew digital marketing at some level while the second batch has some folks who are still to use facebook yet.

I believe today’s session was more fulfilling for me as I answered certain questions that I didn’t foresee. Also the session was one where in mobile opportunity for social media was discussed at length.

Usually these sessions are very exhausting as no matter how much you enjoy speaking 3-4 hours is a long time. I was glad that Milind from the WATConsult team volunteered to take the particpants through the social media walkthrough for facebook as a platform.

The best thing I find about the social media course is we enable participants to discover their niche within social media. We push them to try out new things and in general provide them a direction in their social media journey. Its a very full filling experience to see participants grow in their knowledge over the 4 week period. Hoping for much fun and insights next week on saturday at the social media course.

BTW here is a pic of Milind playing professor of social media :)
